The functionality provided by the easy to use tool upScreen can be broken down into two. The first thing this application does is to capture what’s displayed on your screen; you can set it so it will capture the entire screen, just a part of the screen, or a specific window on the screen. The second thing it does is to let you upload images to your host via FTP or SFTP.

The upScreen installation file weighs in at a lightweight 1.7MB; even on a less than spectacular internet connection, a 1.7MB download will complete in a blink. Going through the setup wizard that shows up when you run the aforementioned installation file also takes little of your time.

The first time, you will be asked to set up your FTP account. You will be asked to choose between FTP and SFTP mode, to enter your host, pick the port that will be used (port 21 is selected by default), provide your username and your password.

Once you do that, you are ready to start using upScreen. You can use the application to capture the whole screen, a part of the screen, a specific window; the screen capture will automatically be uploaded to your host via FTP or SFTP. Your default browser will launch and you will be presented with the screen capture. That’s because after uploading the screen capture to your host, a link to it is automatically opened in your browser. A link to the screen capture is also automatically copied to the clipboard.

The upScreen application is freeware. If you want and need the sort of functionality offered by this application, you don’t have to spend any of your money (donations are welcome though). If you have the skills to tinker with upScreen, the source code is available for download.

upScreen is an easy to use application that does just what it says: it takes a screen capture and automatically uploads it to your host via FTP or SFTP.

Pros

Takes very little time to download and install upScreen on your Windows PC. Takes a screenshot, automatically uploads it, opens a link to it in your browser, and copies it to the clipboard. upScreen is freeware.

Cons

Changing the FTP settings could be a simpler process.
